There is also the consideration that after '83 quite a few games were written that took advantage of the new XL OS and graphic modes. While a translator disk can fix 99.9% of 4/8 - XL/XE trouble you cannot go the other way. I have 1500+ programs and todate only 5 that will not run on XE/XL with the translator. These are all K-byte games, but its O.K. because they really do byte. There are also some games/programs that require 64K.
The 800XL is your best bet the 800 in more of a collectible. I have 48 8-bit Atari's from 400-XEGS's.
